2016-17 Prospect Stats
I've done this again, just like past years, although a little later in the season this time.
Like other years, I include all players within a certain age range in an organization (eligible for 2012 or later), whether they play in the NHL or not. I find this is the only fair way to do it. It doesn't make sense to me to try to judge the future of teams by excluding players just because they play in the NHL.
I only have room for one line per player, so in general I use the stats from the league with the most games played.
Also, this time around, I've decided to forego alphabetical order and try something different. I've ordered them by draft position this time, to maybe make it easier to view stats by "tier" or "expectation". It won't always work out that way, but I thought it was interesting to try.

2017 NHL Draft: Grant McCagg's Top 10 (Updated on-the-fly, not intermittently)

As some of you know, Grant McCagg is no longer with McKeen's. Previously, he had a significant influence on McKeen's often divisive and controversial draft ranking lists. His emphasis on short-term performance has previously resulted in large fluctuations within his rankings, and some have criticized him for being too reactionary.
Over the past few days, McCagg has revealed that he will be offering his own personal draft ranking lists and updating them on the fly via through his new service, Recrutes Hockey. He has stated that he will be updating his list on a weekly, sometimes even daily, basis.
Due to the nature of his on-the-fly updating format, it would make no sense to create a monthly thread for each of his lists; instead, this thread can serve as a dedicated space to discuss his draft rankings.

2017 NHL Draft: Nolan Patrick, Michael Rasmussen top bumper WHL crop By Grant McCagg On November 26, 2016 · ... Two centers have captured scouts' attention above all others - Brandon's Nolan Patrick and Tri City's Michael Rasmussen are both legitimate contenders to be selected first overall next June. ... Rasmussen was another youngster that caught scouts' attention last season with his smarts and skills, but he has taken his game to a whole new level, leading all WHL players with 20 goals one-third of the way into the season. The 6-6 center possesses a strong skating stride, smooth hands and a pro release and shot that will allow him to score plenty of goals at the next level. There are now whispers that he may end up being the first player chosen in the draft. A 6-6 center with his goal-scoring abilities are a rare breed indeed. On top of that, he plays a solid two-way game and has superior vision and passing skills as well. Comparisons to Keith Primeau are far from overblown. ... |

How good is 2017's Top Prospect?
I haven't seen much of Nolan Patrick's game, but I was wondering who is good comparable player(maybe give me best case sinario player and then worst case player comparables), what is his potential and what kind of player is he(I.e. Defensive Foward, Playmaker, etc..), is he an Elite future player, is he possibly a Franchise Centerman?

Who are the top 3 Goalies In This Years Draft
As the season drys away and the bad teams drop from extra playing time/ playoffs I wanted to know some info upon this years Goaltending prospects for example, who are the top 3, how do they compare to last years and the average draft, who are the top three goalies comparable NHL Goalies(if possible, it seems harder to compare goalies to Goalies rather Player to Player), what round and area(early, mid, late) do you believe they will get selected. I want to know what you guys think and who and what Haolies are out there and what teams are working with. Thank you.

Rank these Finnish defence prospects for the 2017 draft
Rankings are for Miro Heiskanen, Henri Jokiharju, Robin Salo, Urho Vaakanainen, and Juuso Valimaki.
Looking for a ranking in terms of :
1) Offensive upside
2) Defensive upside
3) Overall upside
If not asking too much could someone also rank :
a) Skating
b) Hockey IQ
c) puckhandling
d) physical play
e) passing
f) shot
The upside is what I'm looking for most though, these would be nice but aren't required , thanks. :)

HF Partner: The Draft Analyst: Top-100 Overagers for the 2017 Draft
Quote:
Russian imports Ivan Kosorenkov (QMJHL) and Igor Shvyryov (MHL) two former members of Russias now-defunct U18 program are at the top of this talented group of older draft prospects. Both 1998-born forwards are superior puck handlers that can create scoring chances within the confines of a clogged offensive zone. From the blueline, Latvians Kristians Rubins (WHL) and Kristaps Zile (MHL) remain two of our top defenders, both for their mature builds, physicality and leadership ability. And in goal, we remain partial to Niagara (OHL) backstop Stephen Dhillon, who just missed first-year eligibility for 2017 by only two days. |
It's a good year for overagers. Some of these kids were passed over for PR picks like Song. Brutal.
Stransky is a man on an island. His team is terrible and he gets double teamed like crazy. I really like his upside as a 3rd liner, PP specialist.
Top 10
1. RW Ivan Kosorenkov
2. C/RW Igor Shvyryov

Denominator's Consensus Rankings [March]
December rankings (include a description of the system) are HERE.
January rankings are HERE.
February rankings are HERE.
New month, new rankings - the first round and particularly the top-40 have settled into consistent groups. There's still a bit of movement but I feel confident that the yellow, orange, and black groups are going to stay quite consistent from here to the draft. The red and purple groups is settling as well, now that more rankings go deeper than top-31.
In the orange group, there is much more variation. Some rankings have these guys top-5, others will have them 2nd or 3rd round.
The black group (previously red - changed for this edition for legibility), the red group, the purple group, and the dark blue group consist mostly of players that were highly ranked at the start of the season and are dropping now.
The dark blue group should start tightening once there are deeper rankings that go to top-93 or beyond. Most of these guys have been generally decaying due to lack of rankings.
Beyond that, it's really a crapshoot at this point. There have been so few rankings that it's difficult to get a read on anybody beyond about 108, so take that with a grain of salt. Mostly, at that point, it's just a list of names to put on your radar for the next 3 months.
I know there will only be 7 actual rounds in the draft, but there are always more names eligible than are selected, so I will keep breaking it into 31-player groups and numbering them rounds 8+ for ease of reading.

2017 Draft....More Like 1999 or 2012?!
Forgive me for posting another thread about the 2017 draft class, but...
After the events where the Blackhawks beat the Penguins, NBCSN had a post game segment where McGuire, Milbury, Jones, and Olczyk debated about issues like the "winners and losers" of the trade deadline. In the discussion, McGuire went on a rant about the Arizona Coyotes settling for unknown picks instead of proven players. However, in the middle of the rant, I wanted to highlight a comment which he said. That comment was he compared the 2017 entry draft to the 1999 entry draft, furthering stating that the "1999 draft is the worst entry draft in the history of the NHL and 2017 is right next to it" (paraphrasing).
It got me thinking in comparing the drafts, but is it too harsh to say that 2017 is as bad as the 1999 draft? For me, I always thought that this draft resembled the 2012 draft, but without the defensive depth.
- Patrick and Hischier are better than Yakupov.
- Rielly was a wildcard like Liljegren is now.
- Not very hyped players like Mittelstadt and Forsberg.
- A lot of "unknowns" ranging anywhere from 16th to 50th.
And a lot of (IMO) underappreciated players Necas, Rasmussen, Glass, Pettersson, Poehling, Comtois, Popugayev, Suzuki, Thomas, and Yamamoto to name a few. Who can rival the likes of Hertl, Faksa, Girgensons, Teravainen, Maatta, Pearson, and Di Giuseppe. Actually, there are some 2017 players I would take for their potential over some of the 2012's here. This draft definitely lacks a top prospect compared to others, but there some decent depth that should find itself into the third round.
What are your guys' opinion this? There are no arguments from me that this draft is definitely the weakest since 2012, but is it as bad as the 1999?
