LW/C MacAuley Carson - Sudbury Wolves, OHL (2017 Draft)

Very intriguing prospect. He started off being a winger but he's slowly being groomed into a center, he's great defensively and on faceoffs. He's a strong kid with a great shot and very good hockey sense, good PK'er too. Most of his production is 5v5.

I could see alot of teams taking a liking to him, he's a real character kid and he's very versatile. He's a goal scorer, has good 2 way play and is physically mature. Don't think it'll take much time for him to turn pro and make an impact.

Personally i see him as an early 2nd pick right now, although no ones really taking about him. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a 1st rounder.

Centre who shoots right. 6'4" 212 lbs. What do we have here?

C Zach Gallant - Peterborough Petes, OHL (2017 Draft)

After an underwhelming rookie campaign (just 4 points, all assists, in 51 games), Gallant has rebounded to put up some decent numbers so far this season (42 points in 53 games) on a strong Peterborough squad. He's also around 60% in the dot.

For those who have seen him play this season, what are his strengths and weaknesses? And what are your thoughts on his pro potential?

2018 NHL draft/ defencemen

This is a thread to just talk about 2018 draft eligible defencemen.
I am by no means a professional scout but really enjoy scouting/researching NHL prospects.
The top 3 d-men would have to be 1.Rasmus Dahlin 2.Ryan Merkley 3.Bode Wilde. I have only seen Dahlin play in the wjc and some clips but have watched many games of both Merkley and Wilde. There's also Jet Woo, Calen Addison and Jared McIssac middling the first round. I do not know much about European prospects.
Is there any defencemen that stand out to you whether it be north America or Europe?

C Tyler Boland - Rimouski Oceanic, QMJHL (2014 undrafted)

Based on my region the WHL:

Tyler Wong
Zak Zborovsky
Chad Butcher
Steven Owre
Keegan Iverson
Reid Gardiner
Lane Bauer
Matt Alfaro
Dawson Leadahl
Brayden Burke
Tyler Sandhu

Which prospect/prospects do you feel WILL definately make your NHL team next season?

Simple question....

could be due to just being ready, could be due to having to pass through waivers in order to be sent to AHL, or just a good old blue chipper to your teams organization

What prospect/prospects do YOU 100% feel will be on your NHL team next year?

2018 NHL draft/ goalies

This is a thread to just talk about 2018 draft eligible goalies
I am by no means a professional scout but enjoy scouting/researching prospects.
There are 3 goalies that have caught my eye while watching them.
1. Jakub Skarek: he has been tremendous all year long posting great number in the Czech2 league. He is also undefeated in 4 games in the top Czech league. He also played well in the wjc even though his numbers don't prove that. He was left out to dry very often and made many big saves.
2. Olivier Rodrigue: his first year in the Q has been really bumpy. His numbers aren't great but that's to be somewhat expected coming in as a 16 year old. I've watched him in many games this year and have seen steady improvement. He's much calmer in nets, quicker getting post to post and tracking the puck better. I'm expecting him to have a very good year next year.
3. Jordan Kooy: I've heard no talk about him but he's impressed all year. He's been playing backup role to Tyler Parsons in London this year and has gone 11-2. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as their starter next season.
Is there any goalie that impressed you when you watched him?

Your team top prospects and their realistic upsides

What are your teams top 5-10 prospects (or rookies) and their realistic upsides and a bit info on them?
Rangers-
Buchnevich- 60 point+ 1st line playmaking RW. Already very impressive in his rookie season with limited ice time and almost half his games buried on the fourth line. Needs to up his defensive game a lot though but he can be the next Kucherov.
Skjei- #2D with an outside shot at low end 1D, on pace for 40 points as a rookie dman playing bottom pair usually. Already broke 30 points. Was projected as a two way D and is solid in his own zone, great skater but takes a lot of stupid penalties sometimes and has his mistakes (as all Rookie dmen do) to some he is our best prospect and definitely our second best D. Plays like Mcdonagh.
Igor Shestyorkin- Shestyorkin had an amazing season in the KHL this year (playing on the best team however but still impressive) arguably one of the best goalies in the KHL this year and a top 2 goalie prospect. Very athletic goaltender and could very well be the Rangers future starting goaltender and maybe an elite one at that. Probably a 5-10 goaltender.
Jimmy Vesey- interchangeable with Shestyorkin, Vesey plays a powerforward game. Although he struggled mid season he looks to have found his game again. Looks amazing sometimes but invisible the others. Most likely ends up around 45-55 points yearly as a middle 6 forward.
Ryan Graves- Good #4D, won the hardest shot competition in the AHL, bombing shot with solid defensive play could make him a solid 4D, needs to up his offensive game a bit and his skating. Ends up around 15-25 points a year probably.

which forwards at the top of this years draft will make the best wingers?

Specifically I'm going off this mock

1. Nico Hischier C
2. Gabriel Vilardi C
3. Nolan Patrick C
4. Michael Rasmussen C
5. Martin Necas C

Thanks

I'm mostly curious to see what Buffalo does if they end up with a top five pick.

College Prospects Who Might Not Sign

I'm wondering if there are any College prospects that were drafted in the NHL that you think won't sign with your team(s).

I'm a Colin White fan and I do hope he signs with the Sens. But I also have that fear he may want to go elsewhere. Any of you have these kind of thoughts (not just White)?

Kirill Marchenko (F) - Mamonty Yugra, MHL (2018 NHL Draft)

A lot has been written about Andrei Svechnikov, Alexander Khovanov and Grigori Denisenko but not much about this player.

He is having an absolutely great season in MHL with 26 points in 29 games, surpassing both Denisenko and Khovanov.

HF Partner: Flames Jon Gillies Interview

Jon Gillies discusses returning from his hip surgery, his buddy Mark Jankowski, and more. Here's an excerpt:

"When do you have an injury like that you don't know if you're ever going to get our off your pushes. There's a lot of things in the back of your mind that maybe play with you a little bit towards the end of the season, so it's good to have that clear conscience. Especially with the up-and-down this year, trying to get myself back to where my team needs me to be and having their backs. So it's nice to be able to focus on that."

Sportsnet’s 2017 NHL Draft Prospect Rankings for March

...

1. (1) Nolan Patrick, C – Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL): Since returning from injury has shown that he deserved to stay atop draft lists. Does everything so well, not flashy but has a pro style about him already. Think Jonathan Toews-lite.

2. (3) Nico Hischier, C – Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL): Popped big at the WJC and CHL Top Prospects game, but has tailed off slightly. Was injured and since returning has played a slightly different game. Some scouts worry about some of the fatigue he’s shown, but his skills more than compensate.

3. (2) Timothy Liljegren, D – Rogle U20 (SuperElit): A strong Five Nations Tournament alleviated all fears that his game was slipping. For most teams he is the best defenceman in this year's draft.

4. (6) Owen Tippett, RW – Mississauga Steelheads (OHL): Injured at Top Prospects game and played hurt until docs shut him down. Consistently finds scoring chances and goals every game. Pure sniper.

5. (5) Gabe Vilardi, C/RW – Windsor Spitfires (OHL): Probably Windsor’s most consistent player this season. Plays wing, but is a natural centre and has played a few games at that position. Almost a full year younger than Nolan Patrick.

6. (8) Casey Mittelstadt, C – Eden Prairie (Minnesota High School): Was over a point per game player in the USHL and since going back to play high school hockey at Eden Prairie he’s more than doubled that rate of production.

7. (4) Eeli Tolvanen, LW - Sioux City Musketeers (USHL): Heating back up again in the USHL. One of the top pure snipers in the draft this season.

8. (10) Martin Necas, C - HC Kometo Brno (Extraliga): Plays a very confident two-way game. Defensively responsible, has a great engine and doesn’t tire.

9. (11) Michael Rasmussen, C - Tri-City Americans (WHL): A wrist injury will cost him three months, but scouts still rave. Rasmussen can score goals and for a 6-foot-5 player, scouts are impressed at how well he gets around the ice. Has been great on the PP.

10. (12) Cale Makar, D - Brooks Bandits (AJHL): Elusive and agile, can skate the puck out of trouble. Processes the game quickly and can run a power play.

11. (9) Nicholas Hague, D - Mississauga Steelheads (OHL): Plays in all situations, can anchor a PP. Some scouts think skating still an issue, others not that concerned about his feet. Very poised, well controlled now.

12. (14) Lias Andersson, C - HV71 (SHL): Had a production dip after the WJC, but has been on fire of late putting up big points in the SHL.

13. (18) Miro Heiskanen, D - HIFK (Liiga): Has had just about all the teams picking in the top 10 following him lately. Could be a big riser come draft day.

Didn't see any thread for this which surprised me but come to think of it I can't think of many big names coming over this year.

Which big names are coming over? What will the order look like?

Nanaimo Voting on Arena Proposal Today for Likely WHL Team

$

I apologize if this isn't the appropriate forum for this but it seemed like the most relevant.

Nanaimo is voting today to authorize the city to borrow $80 million to build a new arena to house a WHL team. If approved by the voters it would likely mean the Kootenay Ice would be re-located to Nanaimo within the next couple of seasons as they have been frequently rumored in the past to be on the move to the island.

http://www.timescolonist.com/busines...dum-1.11426114

I personally voted "yes" in this referendum but fully expect it to fail. There seems to be a lot of opposition to this proposal and I suspect it will be enough to defeat the proposal.

Edit: I found the WHL forum. Mods feel free to delete this since its clearly the wrong board.
